Preserving the people behind the names.
The planned Veteran Honor Library will extend remembrance beyond the physical plaques by preserving approved biographies, photographs, and service information for future generations.
Library status: This collection is being developed. No submitted name, biography, photograph, or recording will be published until eligibility and permission are confirmed.
What each veteran profile may include
Service record
- Full name
- Military branch and rank
- Years of service
- Unit, assignments, conflicts, or campaigns
- Awards or notable service
Personal story
- Connection to Lakeside
- Written biography
- Approved photograph
- Family memories or reflections
- Oral history interview and transcript, when available
From preliminary submission to public profile
- A veteran, family member, or other interested person submits preliminary information.
- The information remains private while the Board reviews eligibility and required documentation.
- The submitter approves the final biography and grants permission before anything is published.
- An approved profile is added to the public library and may later be connected to the physical plaque.
The Board is still developing the detailed eligibility, documentation, biography, photograph, privacy, review, correction, and publication guidelines.
Oral histories are moving forward
The oral history program will connect local veterans with students from participating schools. Students will learn research, listening, interviewing, and local-history skills while veterans have an opportunity to preserve firsthand accounts of military service, community, and life.
Original recordings and accompanying photographs, biographies, transcripts, and documentation will be housed and preserved by the Lakeside Historical Society. Approved interviews may also be presented through the Veteran Honor Library and the official YouTube channel.
After the Wall of Honor is built, a QR code at the memorial is planned to connect visitors with veteran profile pages containing approved biographies, photographs, transcripts, and embedded interviews.
Share a veteran’s story
Veterans, family members, educators, and community members may submit a biography, request an oral history interview, or express interest in both. Each submission remains private until eligibility, accuracy, permissions, and publication decisions are confirmed.
