Answers to common questions about the proposed Lakeside Veterans Wall of Honor.
Planning and timing
Is the Wall of Honor already approved and under construction?
The project is in development. Planning, site coordination, design review, permitting, fundraising, and other approvals must be completed before construction can begin. The Progress & Updates page will provide dated information as milestones are reached.
Where is the memorial proposed?
The current proposal places the memorial near the Lakeside Community Center at Lindo Lake Park. The exact site and final design remain subject to the applicable review and approval process.
How much will the memorial cost?
The preliminary project estimate is approximately $300,000 to $400,000. This range may change as engineering, permitting, site work, material pricing, construction requirements, contingency, and long-term maintenance planning become more defined.
When will the memorial be completed?
The organization has discussed a possible four- to five-year development period, but no guaranteed completion date will be published until the project has the necessary approvals, funding, and construction schedule.
Veteran recognition
Who may be honored?
Eligibility will follow a written policy adopted by the Board. During the initial priority period, recognition is expected to focus on eligible current and former Lakeside residents. Review the Honor a Veteran page for current requirements before submitting information.
What documentation will be required?
After preliminary review, applicants will be required to provide a redacted photocopy—not an original—of the veteran’s DD Form 214 or another accepted official separation or discharge record showing the veteran’s name, branch of service, service dates, and character of discharge.
Applicants will receive a reference number and mailing instructions. Do not submit military records through the public form or by email. Redact Social Security numbers, service numbers, birth dates, home addresses, and other private information before mailing. The submitted copy will be securely destroyed after verification, and the organization will retain only a verification record.

Applicants may separately choose to donate appropriately redacted military records for historical preservation. Archival donations require separate written permission and are not required for plaque eligibility.
What are the veteran plaques made of?
Each planned plaque will be a 4-by-8-inch black engraved granite plaque. The planned $600 price covers plaque production and helps support future maintenance of the memorial. Final engraving standards, service information, and formatting will follow the approved plaque guidelines.
Does making a donation guarantee a plaque?
No. Donations and veteran eligibility are separate. A gift does not determine whether a veteran qualifies and does not guarantee plaque placement.
Donations and community support
Can I donate in honor or memory of someone?
Online donations are now accepted. A future tribute option may be added. A tribute gift will not itself create or approve a veteran plaque.
How will donations be recognized?
Donor recognition will follow Board-approved contribution levels and guidelines. Recognition may include website listings, campaign materials, or designated project features, but it will remain visually separate from veteran plaques.
How can a business or organization help?
Businesses and organizations may support the project through financial gifts, sponsorships, matching programs, donated materials or services, event participation, and community outreach. Contact the organization to discuss current needs before committing an in-kind contribution.
